Advanced: MESH

with Mateusz Zwierzycki

Intro to mesh (vertices, faces, naked edges, naked vertices, mesh topology), Comparing with NURBS (discrete vs. continuous, fast vs. slow, crude vs. precise), Standard GH mesh components (how to create mesh, how to get data from mesh – face centers, normals, face areas, how to change colors), Mesh tools and mesh edit (mesh pipes, explode mesh, join mesh and why its good, voxels), Starling (simple mesh mapping, polyline tools, architectural applications, simple space truss example), Weaverbird (mesh smoothing concepts, welding meshes), Watertight mesh and 3D printing preparation (boolean operations, precision), Tools in Rhino, Delaunay mesh – landscape modeling, height contour line

ADVANCED SESSIONS

The Advanced sessions put the essential knowledge into practical use, explain specific design strategies, lead you through complex Grasshopper® definitions, show tips and tricks, put plug-ins into use.

MATEUSZ ZWIERZYCKI

Architect, designer and a long-time grasshopper user/coder/tutor, co-author of the www.projektowanieparametryczne.pl (the first polish website about parametric tools in architectural design). Author of the Starling, Anemone and Mesh Tools plugins for Grasshopper. Founder of the Milkbox group and many more disassociated scripts scattered all over the Grasshopper community. Long time workshop tutor, teacher and a parametric design popularizer. Passionate about pure geometry (awesomeshapes.tumblr.com)

WEBINARS

The rese arch Grasshopper® sessions are unique for their thorough explanation of all the features, which creates a sound foundation for your further individual development or direct use in the practice. The webinars are divided into four groups: Essential, Advanced, Iterative and Architectural. If you are a Rhinoceros 3D or Grasshopper® newcomer, you are advised to take all the Essential sessions before proceeding to the next level. If none of the proposed topics suit your needs or if you require special treatment, you can request a custom-tailored 1on1 session. All sessions are held entirely in English.

The webinars are series of on-line live courses for people all over the world. The tutor broadcasts the screen of his computer along with his voice to the connected spectators who can ask questions and comment in real time. This makes webinars similar to live workshops and superior to tutorials.

REQUIREMENTS

The Advanced sessions are meant for intermediate Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper® users. Previous experience with Grasshopper® and understanding of vectors, lists and domains is required. The Essential sessions are recommended prior to taking the Advanced sessions.

The Advanced sessions employ also third-party Grasshopper® plug-ins, supplemental software and hardware. Rhinoceros 3D is available as a free trial version and sells under favorable conditions and prices for educational purposes.
Grasshopper® and most of the plug-ins are entirely free.

The required software for all the Advanced sessions: Rhinoceros 3D for Windows, Grasshopper®, Weaverbird, Mesh+, Mesh edit, David Stasiuk’s marching cubes example, Mesh tools (pipe, sweep, loft etc.), Starling

additionally for the Kangaroo session: Kangaroo

Please, install all the required software before the session. For compatibility reasons it is advised that you use the latest versions of all the above mentioned software and hardware. All used software runs exclusively on Windows. Mac users are advised to install the latest Windows under BootCamp as virtualization through Parallels might be slow and unreliable.
